Top Albums of 2008
December 3rd, 2008
Here are my top albums of 2008. Fleet Foxes ran away with the album of year. Their self-titled debut is a beautiful mix of Beach Boy harmonies and roots folk in the vein of My Morning Jacket. Give this album a listen, it is truly a spiritual experience.
- Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
- Sigur Rós - Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust
- MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
- Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
- Beck - Modern Guilt
- The Whigs - Mission Control
- Ryan Adams & The Cardinals - Cardinology
- Lykke Li - Youth Novels
- Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It
- Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs
- Liam Finn - I’ll Be Lightning
- The Raconteurs - Consolers Of The Lonely
- Okkervil River - The Stand Ins
- Kings of Leon - Only By The Night

TV On The Radio

My Morning Jacket
….ahhhhh, and that’s about it for me. I need to listen to more current music apparently. It seems most of my my favorite records of 2008 were released in 2007. Can I retroactively name Coconut Records my favorite album of 2007 and 2008?????
I’m going to give Fleet Foxes a listen to though.
Thanks for the list Brad Matthew. I say good day.

1. Q-Tip “The Renaissance” (co-produced by Kurt Rosenwinkel)
1. Flying Lotus “Los Angeles”
1. Cut Copy “In Ghost Colours”
1. MGMT “Oracular Spectacular”
1. James Pants ” Welcome”
1. Cadence Weapon “Afterparty Babies”
1. Samiyam “Rap Beats Vol. 1″
1. TV on the Radio “Dear Science”
1. Tobacco “Fucked up Friends”
1. The Sea and Cake “Car Alarm”

My top 5 is something like:
1. Shearwater - Rook
2. TV on the Radio - Dear Science
3. No Age - Nouns
4. The Walkmen - You & Me
5. Deerhunter - Microcastle
and I just never quite got a handle on what makes Bon Iver so special. Good live act, but the album doesn’t do much for me. To each their own, though!

It was between Deerhunter and Fleet Foxes for the #1 spot for me
